BROADER AIMS & OBJECTIVES:

HCCV will strive for broader communal harmony in Victoria by promoting multiculturalism, interfaith activities and understanding among all the religious bodies in Victoria as a representative body of Hinduism.

The HCCV was set up with the aim of bringing together various Hindu organizations and places of worship to present a unified voice for all Hindus living in the multicultural community of Victoria and fulfill the unmet needs of the Hindu communities, irrespective of their race, language or country of origin.

The HCCV aims to have the responsibility to act as the representative of the Victorian Hindu community in dealings with the federal, state and local governments, as well as other organizations and institutions both in Australia and at International level.

The HCCV will act to assist and promote the activities of its member organizations, but it does not exercise control over the internal matters of any of its member organizations.
SPECIFIC AIMS & OBJECTIVES:

To articulate issues that concern Hindus at the local, Victoria State and National levels in Australia and promote interfaith harmony.

To negotiate with the government at all levels or other organizations/associations in matters related to Hindu culture & religion and promote interfaith harmony.

To present a unified Hindu viewpoint on various current social issues relevant to the Australian multicultural society at conferences and in submissions to government institutions.

To organize functions, festivals, etc., promoting Hindu culture and religion in order to foster cooperation among participating organizations.

To act as a non-political, non-sectarian, non-profit organization in order to promote legitimate social, cultural, educational and religious needs of Hindus in Victoria.

To support the establishment of any charitable institution for the benefit of Hindus and the overall community.

To function as an information source for schools and the general community concerning Hindu philosophy, culture and religion.

To print and publish promotional material such as books, leaflets, etc., to promote the activities of the Hindu Community Council of Victoria.

To arrange seminars, conventions, conferences, etc., to promote better understanding of Hindu culture and religion.

To help members of the Hindu community against inappropriate or unjustifiable treatment in matters of issuance of visas for Hindu scholars, priests, dignitaries and speakers for conferences, etc., who are visiting Australia.

To represent the Hindu community at official events and functions such as the Australia Day Celebrations, Anzac Day, etc.

To assist in dealing with the media, written and visual, in regard to possible problems such as the publication or broadcasting of material deemed to be offensive to the Hindu community.

To organize conferences, symposia, etc., Nationally and Internationally, and to represent such meetings on behalf of local associations.

To publicise the existence of the council by advising the media, local councils as well as state and federal institutions.

To provide support services to Hindu students from overseas, such as Home Stay accommodation, and to provide religious counselling and solace in times of need.
